Afterwork in central Madrid: two signature cocktails freshly served at Stillroom’s microcement bar, Los Jerónimos, by the Retiro

If you work around Cibeles, the Banco de España or the Retiro area and are looking for somewhere to go for an afterwork in central Madrid that lets you truly switch off, we have a different plan for you at Stillroom. We are on Calle Moreto 9, in the Los Jerónimos neighbourhood, within the Retiro district, a step from Retiro Park and barely two minutes’ walk from the Prado Museum. Here, afterwork is not a crowded bar or a noisy room: it is an unhurried moment, with warm, low light, where you can sit down to talk, enjoy a signature cocktail and share a few small plates after leaving the office.

Where to go for an afterwork in central Madrid

The question “where to get a drink after work in central Madrid” has many answers, but few manage to combine closeness to the offices, an atmosphere built for slowing down, and a cocktail and food offering that genuinely makes you want to stay. At Stillroom we have created exactly that refuge. Our venue sits on the Paseo del Arte, just metres from Cibeles, the Banco de España and Retiro Park, so you can walk straight over the moment you leave the office. There are no crowds, no loud music, no rush. What you will find is pleasant low light, a signature cocktail bar and a small-plates kitchen designed for sharing.

That is why, if you are looking for an afterwork in central Madrid that genuinely draws a line under the working day, Stillroom becomes a natural choice. Here, after work, you come to settle in properly, to chat, to enjoy something delicious and to forget about email and screens for a good while.

An afterwork by the Retiro and Cibeles

Few areas of Madrid pack in as many offices and workplaces as the Cibeles–Banco de España stretch, and very few afterworks offer the sense of urban retreat you find the moment you cross Calle Moreto. Our venue sits literally a step from the Retiro gardens and the great museums of the Paseo del Arte, in Los Jerónimos, a corner of the Retiro district that invites you to slow your pace and breathe after work. That is exactly what we want: an afterwork near Cibeles that adds no noise, but instead helps you switch off.

Relaxed setting for an afterwork at Stillroom: microcement bar and backlit shelves of infusion jars, Los Jerónimos (Madrid)

A calm setting to switch off after work: the Stillroom bar in the early evening.

The moment you walk into Stillroom, soft light and a hushed atmosphere wrap around you and make you forget the bustle of the office. We are not the typical loud afterwork bar; we are a gastro cocktail bar where you can talk without raising your voice, perfect for an unhurried chat among colleagues or for that moment alone with yourself before heading home. Everything is designed to slow you down: the ambient music, the attentive service and the layout of the space, which puts comfort first. If you work in the area, an afterwork in Retiro like ours is a plan you will appreciate the moment you clock off.

Getting here is very simple. The nearest metro is Banco de España (line 2), and from the exit it is barely a few minutes on foot. You can also walk over from Cibeles, from the Retiro itself or from the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía museums. Either way, the walk costs you nothing and, along the way, you get to switch off a little before stepping into our room.

What to have at an afterwork: signature cocktails + small plates

At an afterwork worth its salt, what you are served matters as much as where you are. At Stillroom we have built our offering around signature cocktails: cocktails with personality, made with quality ingredients and a creative edge, but with no fuss about it. You do not need to be a cocktail expert to enjoy them; quite the opposite — our team is here to help you choose according to the moment, your taste and what you fancy.

What to have at an afterwork: signature cocktail and small plates to share at Stillroom, by the Retiro and Cibeles

Signature cocktails and small plates to pick at: the afterwork plan at Stillroom.

If you are coming straight from the office and have an early start the next day, do not worry. Our cocktail menu always has options that are light, low in alcohol or even alcohol-free, without giving up on flavour or a carefully presented glass. You can go for a fresh, citrusy, light mix, or an elegant alcohol-free cocktail that lets you keep enjoying the evening without paying for it the next day. The idea is that the afterwork adapts to you, not the other way round.

But afterwork is not just about drinking: it is also about picking at something delicious. At Stillroom we serve small plates designed for sharing, with creative tapeo-style food that works as the perfect companion to the cocktails. Small dishes, made with care, which you can order as your appetite grows and share with whoever is with you. From something more substantial to a lighter option, our kitchen is designed to make the time after work complete and unhurried. So, an afterwork in central Madrid with us becomes a well-rounded plan: a carefully made drink and something delicious on the table, in a setting that invites you to stay.

Your afterwork plan, depending on the moment

Not every day you leave work with the same mood or the same company. Sometimes you fancy a quick drink, other times you want to celebrate something with colleagues, and other times you simply want a pre-dinner stop before heading out to eat. If you finish earlier or fancy something lighter to start, you can also have an afternoon snack and leave the cocktail for later. At Stillroom we adapt to each plan without you losing that relaxed after-work feeling. And if you are coming as a large group from work, we have options built for you: check our events page for groups and celebrations.

Afterwork plan Our suggestion
A quick drink after work Sit at the bar or at a low table and order a light or low-alcohol cocktail, paired with something small. Within half an hour you have switched off, with the feeling of having broken away from the routine.
Afterwork with colleagues Book a table to share several small plates from our kitchen and each choose your own cocktail. As it is a calm space, you can catch up as a group without having to raise your voice.
Celebrating a project wrap-up A wrap-up deserves something special. Put together a small toast with signature cocktails from our menu and pair it with a fuller spread of small plates. If there are several of you, ask us about booking a space just for your group.
The pre-dinner stop Come for an unhurried aperitif: a refreshing cocktail and a couple of small plates to whet your appetite. Our location in Los Jerónimos puts you a step from plenty of restaurants in the centre to carry the evening on.

And if the project wrap-up calls for a place just for your group, we go through the formats that work in the area in our guide to venues for private events in central Madrid.

Which days and how to get here

For your afterwork to work, the first thing is knowing when you can come and visit us. On Fridays and Saturdays we open in two slots, from 11:00 to 15:00 and from 19:00 to 01:30: that evening slot is the afterwork proper, the one that flows seamlessly from leaving the office and stretches into the small hours. On Wednesdays and Thursdays we open from 11:00 to 19:00, so during the week there is room for an early drink after the office, even if we do not carry on into the night: until 17:00 we serve brunch and, from 17:00 to 19:00, small plates, something sweet and cocktails, with coffee and our alcohol-free ferments. On Sundays we open from 11:00 to 23:00 without a break, and in the afternoon it is vermouth time. We stay closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. In other words: an afterwork in central Madrid with us comes in two speeds — the full afterwork on Fridays and Saturdays from 19:00, with plenty of time for a drink and a few small plates without watching the clock, and the early drink on Wednesdays and Thursdays, up to 19:00.

Getting here is very easy and helps mark that shift from the office to leisure time. We are on Calle Moreto 9, in Los Jerónimos, barely two minutes’ walk from the Prado Museum and next to Retiro Park. From the Cibeles or Banco de España offices, the walk takes no more than five minutes. The nearest metro is Banco de España (line 2), and from the station you come out practically onto our street. If you are coming from another part of the centre, the bus and nearby car parks also leave you within easy reach. In short: an afterwork near Cibeles and an afterwork in Retiro that starts with a short walk and ends with a well-made drink in a calm room.
