Company dinner in Madrid: signature cocktails and sharing plates by the Retiro

Every November the same scene plays out: someone in the office is handed the job of organising the company dinner in Madrid, along with an almost impossible list of conditions. It has to please everyone, not be the same old thing, be easy to get to, have options for the person who does not drink and the one who does not eat meat, and make sure nobody ends up at the far end of the table unable to talk to anyone. And it has to be booked soon, because December in Madrid waits for no one.
If you are that person, this article is for you. We are Stillroom, a gastro cocktail bar at Calle Moreto 9, in the Los Jerónimos neighbourhood, a short walk from the Prado Museum and the Felipe IV Gate of the Retiro. We work by an idea we often repeat: “The Art of the Invisible”. What matters happens before anyone sees it (the ferments resting, the cordials we make in-house, the table arranged so that conversation flows) and by the time the group sits down, everything seems effortless.
In the next few lines we tell you, honestly, which formats make sense to organise with us, which days suit each one, how many people fit and how to book without surprises. No catalogue menus and no promises that never materialise: just what we really do, every week, at our bar.
Why hold a company dinner in a gastro cocktail bar (and not just another restaurant)
For many teams, the company dinner follows a familiar script: a long table, starter, main, dessert and a formal toast at the end. It works, but it has a problem anyone who has been to a few will recognise at once: the conversation stays trapped in your seat. You talk to whoever is on your left and right, and to the rest of the team, if at all, while you look for your coat on the way out.
In a gastro cocktail bar the rhythm is different. Our cooking is built around bites to share in the middle of the table, so the table keeps moving: plates pass from hand to hand, someone recommends the ensaladilla to the colleague opposite, another orders a second round of gildas. Sharing loosens things up without forcing team-building exercises, which is exactly what most teams are after when December comes around.
And then there is the bar. Signature cocktails are the heart of what we do: ferments, clarifications, house-made cordials and fat washing. For a group, that means the toast stops being a formality and becomes a talking point. What is in this cocktail? Why does it taste like that? Few things bring a table together like discovering something at the same time.

The third argument is the neighbourhood. Los Jerónimos is the Madrid of museums and the Retiro: calm, elegant and yet very central. Celebrating here allows something an ordinary through-street cannot offer: arriving on foot, stretching the afternoon out at the Prado or ending the night with the silhouette of the park behind you. The plan completes itself, and whoever organises it looks good without having to invent anything else.
Formats for your team
Not every team needs the same thing, and not every day suits everything. Our opening hours dictate the plan, and we would rather be clear from the start so you can plan with real information: on Mondays and Tuesdays the venue is closed; on Wednesdays and Thursdays we are open from 11:00 to 19:00; on Fridays and Saturdays, from 11:00 to 17:00 and from 20:00 to 01:30; and on Sundays, from 11:00 to 23:00. From there, these are the four formats that work best.
Team lunch (Wednesday to Sunday)
The team lunch is probably the most underrated format of all. A well-run midday, with bites in the middle of the table and a long, unhurried spell over cocktails afterwards, leaves the team with the feeling of a celebration without costing anyone their evening or the next morning. On Wednesdays and Thursdays the venue is open until 19:00, with the last booking at 16:45, so there is plenty of room for a leisurely lunch that stretches into the afternoon. On Fridays and Saturdays, daytime service runs until 17:00 (last booking at 16:15). And if your team are early risers, brunch from Wednesday to Sunday is another way to celebrate at an easy pace; you will find it in our brunch menu.
Company dinner (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
With us, company dinners are on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Fridays and Saturdays the evening opens at 20:00 and closes at 01:30, with bookings between 20:00 and 23:30: plenty of time to dine unhurried and stay for a last round at the bar. Sunday is the relaxed option and often the easiest to fit into a December packed with commitments: we are open from 11:00 to 23:00 and the last booking is at 22:00. A Sunday dinner with the team has something of a night out among friends that Friday ones do not always have.
Corporate aperitivo and after-work drinks (Wednesday to Sunday)
For teams who want to celebrate without putting on a full dinner, an aperitivo or after-work drinks are a safe bet. Wednesdays and Thursdays suit especially well: as the venue closes at 19:00, the plan wraps up at a sensible hour midweek and nobody has to choose between the celebration and the next day. It is an ideal format for the end of a quarter, a welcome or an informal “thank you” to the team. We go into it in our guide to after-work drinks in central Madrid.
Exclusive hire of the whole venue (up to 48 people)
When the group is large or the occasion calls for it, the best option is to hire the whole venue. We can close Stillroom for you, with room for up to 48 people, a format designed for company dinners, presentations, birthdays and private celebrations. Hiring a bar exclusively in Madrid has an obvious advantage: the whole space, the bar and the team work only for your group, and the menu is adapted to the pace of your evening. Dates, times and format are agreed bespoke; you will find more details on our events page and in the guide to private event spaces in central Madrid.

Corporate aperitivo in Madrid: the fastest-growing format
If you ask us which format we see gaining ground among companies, the answer is clear: the corporate aperitivo in Madrid has stopped being the little sibling of the dinner and become an option in its own right. It makes sense. It is easier to fit into impossible diaries, it does not force anyone to give up their evening and, done well, it leaves behind the same good memory as a long dinner.
The key is not to mistake an aperitivo for a formality. A couple of well-chosen signature cocktails, some bites to share that invite you to graze and chat, and a space where the group can mingle without the rigidity of assigned seats. You do not need more than that. It works just as well as midweek after-work drinks as a relaxed weekend celebration, and it is perfect for teams who want to get together without turning the plan into a marathon.
And if your team enjoys the ritual of the classic aperitivo, on Sundays we run a vermouth bar. Few things are as Madrid as a well-served vermouth at midday, and few are as welcome for closing an intense week in good company. Have a look at our vermouth menu to get an idea.
And what if the aperitivo for your corporate event has to be at your own office? We do that too, but that is another story: our catering service with La Barra brings a portable bar, a senior bartender, glassware and a tailored menu to your space, with an indicative minimum of 30 people and 3 hours of service. We explain it in our guide to catering for corporate events in Madrid and the one on private bartenders in Madrid.

The table: bites in the middle and cocktails with a name
What is served matters, and a lot. Our kitchen works with precise techniques (sous-vide, MyChef oven, blowtorch and induction) so that every bite reaches the table at its best, even when the table is long and the group large. The idea is simple: dishes designed for sharing, ordered for the middle of the table and arriving one after another at the pace of the conversation.
A few of those that most often turn up on group tables:
- Acorn-Fed Jamón Ibérico, the classic that never fails as an opener.
- Santoña Gildas and Santoña Anchovies, perfect with the first cocktail.
- Ensaladilla Rusa “Bonita” (our take on the Spanish potato salad), the kind that sparks a debate over who gets the last spoonful.
- Bluefin Tuna Tartare and Burrata with Raf Tomato, freshness to balance the table.
- Sous-Vide Octopus, tender and full of character.
- Kimchi Smash Burger, for anyone after something more substantial.
- Roasted Cauliflower, Tahini & Citrus, one of our vegetarian options.
To finish, the Yuzu/Passion Fruit Cheesecake or the Chocolate Coulant close the night on a high note. You will find the full selection in our bites menu.
At the bar, every signature cocktail has an identity of its own. The Floreal combines flower-infused sake, maraschino cherry, yuzu and a sparkling wine top: delicate, aromatic, ideal for the toast. The Arcano, with gin, Midori, apple cordial, sake, house-made herbal liqueur and yuzu, has more layers and a long finish that invites a second glass. They are two good examples of what we do with ferments, clarifications and cordials prepared in-house.
We also think about those who do not drink. Our alcohol-free cocktails are made with the same rigour as the rest of the menu, because nobody on the team should toast with something that looks like a last-minute fix. And in the kitchen, vegetarian dishes are marked (v). If anyone in the group has allergies, intolerances or particular preferences, tell us when you send your request and we will guide you.
How to book (and why December waits for no one)
We wanted booking a company dinner with us to be as easy as ordering a drink at the bar. The route depends on the size of your group:
- If there are up to 20 of you, go to our booking page. The system shows the days and time slots available within our opening hours. We receive your booking straight away and, if there is any problem with the date or time, we will write to you.
- If there are more than 20 of you, or you want to hire the whole venue, fill in the quote form on our catering page, or call us on 619 21 36 16 or message us on WhatsApp at +34 692 58 90 04.
- You receive a proposal within 48 hours with the format that best fits what you have told us: number of people, day, time slot and type of celebration.
- We fine-tune the details together: the pace of the evening, cocktails, vegetarian and alcohol-free options, any special needs in the team.
Now, the part worth remembering: December fills up fast. The most sought-after dates, especially Fridays and Saturdays, are the first to disappear from the calendar, and whoever books earliest gets to choose the table and the time. You do not need every detail settled to take the first step; with a rough idea of the number of people and the date, we can get started.
If you are the one organising, here is a piece of advice from the house: decide the format first (lunch, dinner, aperitivo or exclusive hire) and the date second. Being clear about what kind of celebration the team wants simplifies everything else, and helps us propose what really works.

Where to find us: Los Jerónimos, the whole plan
We are at Calle Moreto 9, in the heart of Los Jerónimos, a short walk from the Prado Museum and the Felipe IV Gate of the Retiro. It is one of the loveliest areas of Madrid and, at the same time, one of the easiest to find, which is welcome when you need to bring together a team arriving from different parts of the city.
That location lets you think about the plan more broadly. Some companies turn the celebration into a whole afternoon: a visit to the museum, a stroll to our door and dinner or an aperitivo to finish. If what you are after is a restaurant for groups in central Madrid, this is a hard argument to match: culture, park and a shared table within a few minutes’ walk. And for a group dinner near the Retiro, few addresses are as handy.
If it is your first visit, here is the walking route from the Prado and our foodie guide to the Los Jerónimos neighbourhood, with everything worth discovering around us.
A table for the whole team
Organising the company dinner should not be a burden. It should be the excuse for the team to sit down together, share plates, discover a cocktail they did not know and go home feeling the year was worth it. That is the evening we like to prepare.
Behind every booking there is a venue that is open, a team you can meet any day at our bar and a way of working we look after in detail. We do not sell catalogue menus or generic promises: we put together a table designed for your group, with the best of our bites kitchen and our bar.
Tell us what you have in mind. We would love to help you turn this year’s company dinner into one the team remembers.
Frequently asked questions
How many people can we host for a company dinner at Stillroom?
It depends on the format. For groups of up to 20 diners, you can send your request straight through our online booking system, which shows the days and time slots available within our opening hours. If there are more than 20 of you, we plan it bespoke, and if you would like the venue all to yourselves, we can hire it out exclusively for up to 48 people. You will find every format for groups, celebrations and companies on our events page.
How do we book a company dinner?
If there are up to 20 of you, send your request from the booking page: we receive it straight away and, if there is any problem with the date or time, we will write to you. If there are more than 20 of you, or you are looking to hire the whole venue, fill in the quote form and we will send you a proposal within 48 hours; you can also call us on 619 21 36 16 or message us on WhatsApp at +34 692 58 90 04. The form is on our catering page.
Can Stillroom be hired exclusively for a corporate event?
Yes. We can close the whole venue for up to 48 people, an option many companies choose for team dinners, presentations or private celebrations. With the space just for you, the cocktail menu and the bites are tailored to your group and the pace of the evening. Dates and format are agreed bespoke. We explain how it works in our guide to private event spaces in central Madrid.
Do you have a set menu for company dinners?
We do not work with off-the-peg set menus. We prefer to put together a proposal for each group, built around our sharing-plate cooking and the house’s signature cocktails. That way we can adjust quantities, pacing and vegetarian options to whatever you tell us about the team. To get an idea of what we serve, have a look at our bites menu.
Can we have just a corporate aperitivo, without dinner?
Of course, and it is one of the formats that works best. A corporate aperitivo or after-work drinks, from Wednesday to Sunday, with a couple of signature cocktails and bites to share, lets you celebrate without taking up the whole evening. On Wednesdays and Thursdays we close at 19:00, so it fits very well midweek. We explain it in more detail in our guide to after-work drinks in central Madrid.
Are there alcohol-free options and choices for different diets?
Yes. Our alcohol-free cocktails are made with the same care as the rest: house-made ferments and cordials that give each glass depth, not just decorated juices. In the kitchen we have vegetarian dishes, marked (v) on the menu. When you send your request, tell us about any allergies, intolerances or preferences in the team and we will guide you. You can see the alcohol-free section in our cocktail menu.
How late can we stay at a company dinner?
On Fridays and Saturdays the evening service runs from 20:00 to 01:30, with bookings between 20:00 and 23:30, so there is time to dine unhurried and linger at the bar afterwards. On Sundays we are open from 11:00 to 23:00, with the last booking at 22:00. On Wednesdays and Thursdays we close at 19:00, and on Mondays and Tuesdays the venue is closed. You can check availability on our booking page.
